Score finished at 1-1 with Chivas USA down to 9 men.
Martín Rivero scored an equaliser in the 80th minute to rescue a point against Chivas USA in a bad tempered game which saw three red cards.
Chivas were ahead thanks to an excellent finish from rookie Carlos Alvarez in the sixth minute, after being fed through by Erick Torres the 20 year-old send a left footed effort into the top left hand corner.
Chivas’ keeper and skipper saved a penalty in the 27th minute after a blatant hand ball from Steven Purdy gave Deshorn Brown the chance from the spot, but Kennedy guessed correctly and saved low to his right.
In the 33rd minute the first red card of the game was shown when Farfan was sent off for a callous stamp on Shane O’Neill’s shin, but the Rapids were unable to capitalise on their numerical advantage which was lost in the 49th minute when Tony Cascio received a second yellow for a high boot.
The game then evened out until the 63rd minute when Tristan Bowen forgot himself and, frustrated at being dominated all game by Colorado’s Chris Klute, spat at the defender after losing the ball. The linesman saw the incident and brought it to the referee’s attention, who brandished a red card. The petulant Bowen stuck around and waved his finger at various people but eventually trudged off.
Chivas paid the price for not keeping cool heads in the 80th minute when Mártin Rivero headed in the equaliser from the edge of the six yard box into the top left hand corner.
Head coach José Luis “Guero” Real said he would look into the recent misconducts to make sure it doesn’t become a trend. The Rojiblancos have received five straight red cards this season and eight ejections overall.
“That’s the most important problem we need to solve,” Real told reporters. “We’ve got to analyse and talk with the team. It can’t happen when we have an opportunity to win matches.”
