Former champion hints at a softening in their relationship.
It has been one of the most eagerly watched rivalries in mixed martial arts ever, but it might all be coming to an end soon.
Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva says long-time arch-rival Chael Sonnen is actually a good guy despite the years of anger and a bitter of war of words waged between the two.
The pair have clashed inside and outside of the cage, with Sonnen taking delight at taunting the then champion extensively before their two fights at UFC 117 and 148.
The ‘Gangster from West Linn’ took shot at everything from Silva’s homeland of Brazil to his wife, as the two main events became two of the bigger commercial successes in the UFC’s history, thanks in large part to Sonnen being able to sell the bouts.
“Chael talk too much, but is a good guy. He’s not bad, he’s a good guy. Chael is (always) in the media for fight,” Silva said.
“Chael fight for the belt against me two times. Chael fight Jon Jones, Chael fought “Shogun,” Chael fight now.
“Chael is working for Dana White all the time. Dana don’t need to talk nothing because Chael is working all the time. It’s normal. Chael talk.”
Sonnen has been unveiled as one of the coaches for the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil, where he will work opposite Brazilian star Wanderlei Silva with the pair to meet inside the cage to end their own simmering feud.
