Spurs believed to have had offer rejected by Atletico Mineiro.
A Premier League club believed to be Tottenham have had an €18m bid for wonderkid Bernard rejected by Atletico Mineiro, according to the president of the Brazilian club.
The 20-year-old playmaker is currently on international duty with Brazil at the Confederations Cup but Alexandre Kalil confirmed that an English club, as well as Primera Liga champions Porto, were interested in Bernard.
“We have received an offer of €18m from an ‘English club’ who wants to sign Bernard who is now with Brazil. The offer was deemed too low, therefore refused,” Kalil told Spanish news agency Terra.
“FC Porto have now entered negotiations. Their president a good friend.
“We told everyone if you pay €25m Bernard is yours. Porto sold Moutinho and James Rodriguez [to AS Monaco]. I believe they have money.”
Borussia Dortmund are also said to be admirers of Bernard, who is rated as one of the most promising prospects in Brazil.
But the Champions League runners-up are reportedly closing in on Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen, which could leave a straight fight between Spurs and Porto for the Selecao starlet.
Any deal for Bernard will have to wait however. The young trickster has publicly stated that he will not leave Atletico until after their Copa Libertadores campaign, with a two-legged tie against Newell’s Old Boys set to take place in July.
