The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs 25-20 on Saturday, ending the Bulldogs undefeated streak and giving the Crimson Tide full control of their destiny in the SEC title picture.
Alabama was able to control the game from the beginning, scoring 19 points in the first half before finally allowing a Bulldogs field goal at the end of the half to make the game 19-3. Mississippi State was able to cut the deficit to 19-13 thanks to ten unanswered points in the second half. But Alabama struck back with a run by RB T.J. Yeldon with 8:55 remaining to make the score 25-13. The Crimson Tide defense held up, only allowing one more Bulldogs TD with only 0:19 remaining in the game.
With the win Alabama is now in complete control of its own destiny in the SEC West title picture – all the Tide need to do is win out and they will clinch a spot in the SEC Championship game. Alabama’s next game will be against the FCS West Carolina Catamounts before the Iron Bowl against Auburn.
With the loss the Mississippi State Bulldogs are now 9-1 on the season with games against Vanderbilt and #10 Mississippi still on the schedule. The only way for Mississippi State to go to the SEC title game would be for Alabama to lose one of their final two games.
