In arguably the biggest upset of the season, the West Virginia Mountaineers ended the undefeated run of the Baylor Bears 41-27 in Morgantown, West Virginia.
Despite committing 3 turnovers, the Mountaineers were able to do what TCU couldn’t against the Bears last week: Stop Bryce Petty’s impeccable offensive prowess. Ultimately, the downfall of the Bears were the penalties – an incredible 19 penalties for 232 yards in the game. 9 of those penalties were for Mountaineers first downs. Without even forcing a turnover on their own, the Mountaineers used QB Clint Trickett and his 9.2 yards/attempt mark to cause nightmares for the Bears defense.
West Virginia WR Kevin White dominated the game with 8 receptions for 132 yards and 2 TDs, including a back-breaking one-handed TD in the 4th quarter that gave the Mountaineers the lead for good.
In total, 33 penalties for 370 yards were committed in this game.
