Arizona State Hail Mary – (Video) Mike Bercovici completes Hail Mary touchdown pass
Arizona State was coming off a 62-27 blowout loss to UCLA, and they recovered in a big way by shocking No. 16 USC, 38-34, at the very last second with a Hail Mary touchdown pass by Mike Bercovici, who was making his second collegiate start at quarterback.
The game stayed tight the whole way through, and the Trojans took a 34-25 with three minutes remaining. However, the Sun Devils responded just about 20 seconds later with a touchdown.
They regained possession after the Trojans failed to close out the game, and Bercovici was able to heave a 47-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jaelen Strong despite the Sun Devils having no timeouts left.
Bercovici finished with 510 passing yards and five touchdowns on 27-of-45 passing. He was able to carry a Sun Devils offense despite a sputtering running game that finished with just 31 total yards. Strong finished with 10 catches and 202 yards with three touchdown receptions.
For the Trojans, quarterback Cody Kessler threw for 273 yards on 28-of-45 passing but failed to throw a touchdown pass. Running back Javorius “Buck” Allen ran for 143 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries while adding 86 receiving yards on four receptions.
