The Dutchman wants Robben to join Kroos at Old Trafford.
Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos has agreed to join Manchester United in a £20m deal and now Louis van Gaal is targeting his teammate Arjen Robben, according to the Daily Mail.
The Red Devils have been keeping tabs on Kroos for some time as the Germany international continued to refuse to sign a new contract at the Allianz Arena.
His current deal with the Bundesliga champions expires in 2015 and Bayern would rather sell the 24-year-old this summer then risk losing the attacking midfielder on a free transfer in 12 months time.
That is why United have managed to secure Kroos for a much lower price than would have been quoted had the German been contracted to a longer deal.
This agreement between the two clubs was negotiated when David Moyes was still manager and the Scot is beginning to receive more plaudits for his transfer work since being sacked then when he was actually in charge.
That is because Moyes also started tying up moves for both Southampton’s Luke Shaw and William Carvalho of Sporting Lisbon as well, before being axed on April 22.
His replacement van Gaal is keen to make improvements to the squad at Old Trafford as soon as possible and after securing Kroos the Dutchman now wants his Bayern teammate Robben.
The 62-year-old knows the winger well having made him one of first signings when he was in charge at the German champions back in 2009 – arriving from Real Madrid in a £20m deal.
Then since 2012 van Gaal has managed the former Chelsea star in the Netherlands national team and the presence of the veteran boss is what is thought to convince Robben to make the move.
Both Bayern players were key in the club winning the title in 2013/14 with a record six games to spare, but are prepared to give up their lives in Germany to help United get back to the glory days.
