Manchester United transfer news.
Fletcher ended 19 years at Old Trafford on Monday as the Red Devils allowed the midfielder to join the Baggies on a free transfer and end his reign as the club’s longest serving player.
Yet the 31-year-old has revealed his departure was not because manager Louis van Gaal wanted to get rid of him, but because the Scotland international wanted more game time.
In fact Fletcher says that van Gaal tried to convince him to stay.
“I spoke to the manager about not playing as much as I wanted and the club didn’t really want me to go but they respected my wishes,” the Scot told talkSPORT.
Fletcher will now be tasked with improving a West Brom side who recently appointed Tony Pulis as their new boss.
