Chelsea’s Nathan Ake has signed a new five-year contract to stay at Stamford Bridge, but he will not spend the 2015-16 season with the Blues.
The midfielder, who can also operate at left-back, will spend the season on a loan at Watford, having agreed to join the Hornets on Friday.
Ake will be Watford’s 11th signing of the summer.
The Dutch Under-21 international is looking to gain more first-team experience, as he has only made 12 appearances for Chelsea in three seasons.
Ake, 20, has shown potential with the Blues. He was given the Young Player of the Year award in the 2012-13 season.
He also offers versatility, as he can play two positions. Chelsea have been looking to upgrade their defence recently, so Ake may turn out to be a valuable player in the long run.
