Manchester United player ratings vs. Arsenal: Injury to goalie David de Gea dooms Man United late
David de Gea went down with a hamstring injury in Manchester United’s draw against Arsenal on Sunday.
Valdes stepped in as the Red Devils’ goalie after de Gea left, and he had a disappointing debut for his team as he allowed the game-tying goal.
Now that the 2014-15 Premier League season is almost over, de Gea is widely expected to leave Manchester United, and manager Louis van Gaal has already conceded that he can’t completely control whether de Gea returns.
ESPN FC reports that de Gea is likely to sign with Real Madrid, but Valdes made a pitch to de Gea by telling him that he is already at one of the three greatest clubs in all of football.
“Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United are three of the biggest clubs in the world. Everyone in the world wants to play for these three clubs,” Valdes said.
Valdes is likely to become de Gea’s replacement, but Man United will need to stay on their toes and look to the future as Valdes is 33 years old.
