Adam Lallana opened the scoring at Anfield this past Saturday evening, with the Liverpool summer signing capitalising on a mistake from the Crystal Palace defence to give his side the lead.
He has struggled to make the impact that was expected of him upon his big money move from Southampton, but could still prove part of the answer to filling the gaping hole that is sure to be left by Steven Gerrard’s imminent departure.

Gerrard is a truly unique midfielder, and it’s hard to see any one player replacing him. Lallana could certainly take some of the burden however, as he is more than capable of not only scoring with regularity, but of being a creative hub for the team as well.
Southampton were built around the 27-year-old, and last season in particular he was involved in almost everything good that came from the South Coast side. He has needed to get used to not being the main man at Liverpool, but he can certainly contribute a lot to his new side if he can remain injury free.
In Jordan Henderson, Liverpool have a player who not only has the potential to take over the captain’s armband from Gerrard, but who can also provide that stability and reliability in midfield. He is unlikely to ever replicate the Anfield icon’s goalscoring exploits however, which is where Lallana can shine.
His goal against Palace showed the quality he possesses going forward, and with Liverpool currently unable to rely on their strikers, a threat from midfield and the wide areas is badly needed.
