One of the wizards from the west produced something special from the first game.
It might not have the ‘wow factor’ that some others are sure to have this season, but Hayden Ballantyne’s effort against Collingwood deserves a look in for AFL goal of the year.
After picking up the crumbs from a marking contest in the Dockers’ forward left-pocket, Ballantyne takes a risk and snaps almost blindly back towards the goal with the looping shot splitting the big sticks for six.
While it might look easy, try it our for yourself at the same speed Ballantyne was moving and you’ll see it is a tough ask.
