Finally statistics will crown who is the best player in the land.
It is the argument that is as old as the game itself, just who is the best player in the AFL.
Now after years of statistics being collected for every player for every team, fans of the game are soon to have an answer to the question.
On May 14 the AFL will reveal the ratings that will be given to every player in the competition, giving fans, coaches and pundits quantifiable proof as to who is a better player and why.
Since 2007, every mark, kick and handball has been noted along with where each took place on the ground, if the player was under pressure and if the disposal hit the target.
These stats are then combined with other important elements to the game such as chasing, corralling, perceived and actual physical pressure along with the creation of scoring chances.
All of this is combined with the player’s output in these areas for their past 40 games, to ensure the players who are rated towards the top, will have had to be have been playing at a high level for two seasons.
Players ratings will be able to change from week-to-week depending on the previous round’s performance, giving fans a real-time gauge as to how well their teams are performing.
