The match was all about youngster Viktor Fischer, already eclipsing Christian Eriksen as the hottest property to emerge from the Ajax youth academy despite being just eighteen years of age.
The teenager slotted home the first following a flowing move, had a hand in the own goal scored by Rens Van Eijden to double Ajax’s lead, and completed his brace with a stunning lob from outside the area.
Nick van der Velden pulled a goal back for NEC in the closing stages, but Ajax substitute Ryan Babel scored a late strike as well to restore the three goal margin.
