Could it be written any more perfectly…?
Great Britain today won the Davis Cup, beating Belgium in the final – thanks almost entirely to Andy Murray.
The Scottish superstar, world no.2, destroyed David Goffin, hitting this wonderful lob to down the Belgian no.1 in three straight sets.
The scoreline was convincing, but the match was by no means easy. Goffin made Murray fight tooth and nail, but in the end, the greatest ever British tennis player was far too good.
Murray has won a US Open, Wimbledon, Olympic Gold and the Davis Cup. He’s due to compete in the Australian Open in January, where he’s already been beaten four times in the final. If he can go one better next year he’ll have to oust all conquering Novak Djokovic from his Melbourne thrown – but after this weekend’s Braveheart performance, few would bet against him.
