Joshua last fought back in November when he claimed a stoppage win over Michael Sprott in Liverpool, and he was forced to pull out of his fight against Kevin Johnson earlier this year due to a stress fracture in his back.
After taking time to rest and go through rehabilitation, the British heavyweight star is ready to get back to business as he continues to climb the rankings and work towards a world title shot.
The Olympic gold medallist is a heavy favourite to seal an 11th professional win on Saturday night to extend his unbeaten record, although Gavern is experienced and will be a tricky opponent to overcome.
Joshua will want to make light work of the bout in front a strong crowd in Newcastle as he is already booked in to fight again on the bill at the O2 in May where he will face Johnson in their re-arranged bout.
However, he won’t be looking that far ahead and will be going out to put on a show on Saturday night as he eyes bigger fights later in the year.
