Joshua returns to the ring after an injury lay-off which forced him to pull out of a scheduled bout with Kevin Johnson in January, with his last action in the ring coming back in November last year when he stopped Michael Sprott in Liverpool.
The Olympic gold medallist has recovered from the stress fracture in his back, and will make his highly anticipated return against an experienced and durable opponent.
However, this will be seen as a warm up fight for the towering Brit ahead of his rescheduled bout with Johnson on May 30, and he will want to put on another show and get rid of any ring rust ahead of an important few months in his career.
While promoter Eddie Hearn continues to take the heavyweight prospect around the UK to continue to build his profile and reward his fans, Joshua will be expected to step up his level of competition after his next two fights which could pit him against some of his British rivals.
Nevertheless, for now he will be focused on the task in hand and that starts with continuing to put on impressive performances with a stoppage against Gavern.
