Anthony Joshua came face-to-face with his next opponent in American Kevin Johnson on Wednesday ahead of their bout on January 31 at the O2 in London.
Joshua is currently 10-0 in his professional career with 10 KOs and he suggested that ‘Phase One’ of his career was brought to a close after his win over Michael Sprott in Liverpool last month.
With promoter Eddie Hearn talking up the possibility of a potential fight with domestic rival Tyson Fury next summer, Joshua will look to come through his next test unscathed before fights later in the year.
Meanwhile, the Olympic champion will also hope to come through in style by becoming the first man to stop Johnson, with the likes of Fury, Chisora and Vitali Klitschko failing to do so previously against the durable American.
Nevertheless, Joshua will look to be tested and perhaps go through a few more rounds than in previous bouts, but essentially the 25-year-old will want to put on a show and take another step towards his dream of winning a world title.
Hearn also pointed out that it will be interesting to see how Joshua deals with Johnson’s antics outside of the ring in the build-up to the fight as the American has a reputation for being outspoken and Joshua hasn’t previously come across such a character in his career to date.
However, he will likely take it in his stride with Johnson attempting to play games at the press conference as the pair look ahead to meeting in the ring in the New Year.
