‘Showtime’ lives up to his name with first round submission victory at UFC 164.
Anthony Pettis has been crowned the new UFC lightweight champion after submitting Benson Henderson in the first round of the main even fight at UFC 164.
It continues Pettis’ run of good form against Henderson having beaten him for the WEC title three years earlier.
But now in front of his hometown crowd, Pettis ended Henderson’s seven fight winning streak as he got him to verbally submit to an arm-bar with just 29 seconds left in the first round.
Pettis (17-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) was quick to call out Jose Aldo for his next fight, while Henderson (19-3 MMA, 7-1 UFC) admitted he was bested by the better man and vowed to be back to claim his title.
