Petr Cech endured a torrid Premier League debut for Arsenal on Sunday as the Gunners lost 2-0 to West Ham United, who were aided by two errors from the former Chelsea stopper.
Cech’s arrival at Arsenal gave many people confidence that the Gunners would mount a serious title challenge this season.
In fact, many of our writers here at fanatix tipped Arsene Wenger’s men to become champions of England because of the Cech factor.
Well, Cech’s awful display against the Hammers served as a real reality check for all backers of Arsenal.
The Hammers broke the deadlock on 42 minutes when Cech recklessly charged out of his six-yard box with the intention of claiming a floated-in free-kick. He failed his mission and Cheikhou Kouyate gratefully headed into an unguarded net.
Cech was punished for fluffing his lines again after the half-time break.
Poor positioning saw him beaten at his near post by an optimistic Mauro Zarate strike.
