Full back on target for his new employers in the Brazilian capital.
Gremio overcame Fluminense 3-0 in Rio on Thursday, with on-loan Arsenal left-back Andre Santos among the scorers for the visitors.
Life for Santos might have been rocky at the Emirates Stadium, but the Arsenal left-back got his loan spell at Gremio off to a flyer.
After a Bruno own goal had gifted them the lead against Fluminense, Santos struck ten minutes into the second half.
Nothing special about this goal, if anything it was a huge slice of luck for Santos who was clearly offside.
With 21 minutes remaining Gremio sealed the win. Eduardo Vargas found some space in the area, and his shot should really have been stopped by Diego Cavalieri but it went under the goalkeeper.
The goal was Vargas’ first as well – he’s on-loan from Italian club Napoli.
Gremio top a tight Group 8 after two matches with three points.
Fluminense are bottom but also have three points.
