Watch highlights from the first day of England vs Australia in Nottingham.
The highly anticipated 2013 Ashes series between England and Australia has finally started and what a first day it was at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
Day one of the first Test had no fewer than 14 wickets, with the English batsmen looking ragged against an Australian bowling line-up that included 19-year-old debutant Ashton Agar.
However, it was veteran seamer Peter Siddle that took the plaudits with a five-fer, claiming the important wicket of young opener Joe Root before lunch.
Morning session highlights:
Jonathan Trott and Kevin Pietersen followed Root back to the pavilion off the bowling of Siddle shortly after lunch and things looked even worse when the Aussie dismissed Ian Bell and Matt Prior, to leave the Three Lions looking shaky.
Afternoon session highlights:
Stuart Broad ensured the home side’s tail wagged a bit with a solid 24, but the hosts were eventually all-out for a fairly unimpressive 215.
However, England’s bowlers were not going to lie down and take this attack and when paceman Steven Finn dismissed Shane Watson and Ed Cowan in successive balls the home crowd took notice.
James Anderson chipped in with a couple of wickets of his own to leave Australia on 75-4 at close and the match finely poised heading into day two.
