Holger Osieck’s side failed to chalk up a victory in South Korea and head home in last place.
Australia were consigned to last place in the East Asian Cup after losing a seven-goal thriller with China on Sunday.
It ended a disappointing tournament for Holger Osieck’s men who, after falling behind in the fifth minute, gave themselves hope of a medal when Aaron Mooy’s stunning long-range effort drew them level on the half hour.
But the Socceroos were outclassed from then on with China racing into a 4-1 lead before substitutes Adam Taggart and Mitchell Duke made the scoreline more respectable in injury time.
