Stand-in coach backs his Argentinian superstar ahead of El Clasico showdown.
Barcelona attacker Lionel Messi has been defended by the club’s assistant manager Jordi Roura after the Argentinian had been criticised in the Spanish press for some of his recent displays.
The Catalans are preparing for the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final clash with arch-rivals Real Madrid at the Camp Nou on Tuesday night.
“The game against Milan was difficult and it got complicated for reasons we have already talked about,” Roura said in his pre-match press conference.
“As for Sevilla we know they are a tough rival who knows how to defend and leave little space for us to score. So we have played two very complicated games. And of course the game against Real Madrid will be the same.
“They are a great team with great players and we know of the difficulty playing against them here. We really want to go out on the pitch and compete. And we want to make it right, win this game and reach another final.
“My God. How is Messi not effective? Everybody can always get better. We can always improve. Leo (Messi), you and I. Everybody has room for improvement. Let’s wait and see if he gets better. I think that to discuss or put into doubt Leo’s campaign is completely out of place.”
