The All Blacks were thoroughly tested in an exhilarating clash at a rain-soaked Twickenham on Saturday evening, as their quality on both ends was put to the test by their rivals.
Dan Carter played a pivotal role in the win with two conversions as well as a drop goal at a significant period in the game early in the second half, but it was their unshakeable defence that denied South Africa gaps to exploit late on as they searched for a way to overturn their deficit.
Although the Springboks threatened to deny the reigning champions a place in the final with a big defensive performance, New Zealand ultimately deserved their win and will now await the winner of Sunday’s semi-final between Australia and Argentina.
