Perth Scorchers batsman Adam Voges made an unbeaten 27 runs off 21 balls on Tuesday night in his side’s three-wicket loss to Big Bash rivals Melbourne Stars.
Voges’ knock included two fours, but it would have been three had it not been for an interfering seagull.
The brave bird got in the way of a powerful fence-bound shot, taking plenty of pace off it and allowing the Stars to save a couple of runs.
Early signs did not look good, as the bird remained pretty still following the collision. However – somewhat miraculously – it was seen proudly patrolling the boundary rope later in the innings.
Melbourne chased down 180 with three balls to spare, largely thanks to Peter Handscomb, who finished the match on 103 not out, having faced 64 deliveries.
