Ahead of their fight in London on Saturday night, Chris Eubank Jr opted to turn up to the press conference on Monday afternoon and goaded his rival Billy Joe Saunders.
Eubank Jr had failed to show up to two previous meetings with Saunders present, but the pair were finally sat at the top table alongside promoter Frank Warren on Monday with just days before fight night.
Both fighters attempted to undermine one another but they remained calm throughout as Eubank Jr insisted that he didn’t want to bring his security or father to the venue to listen to Saunders.
Nevertheless, the pair engaged in an exchange of words with the challenger suggesting that Saunders would not be able to take his power and would run as soon as he felt it. In addition, Eubank Jr believes that the champion hasn’t got the heart to stand and go to war with him, while Saunders has suggested that he will retire if he doesn’t beat his opponent.
Meanwhile, Warren took another opportunity to criticise the quality of the Sky Box Office show on Saturday night which was headlined by Nathan Cleverly and Tony Bellew’s grudge match, and insisted that BoxNation had the best card of the year and that included the Carl Froch and George Groves rematch at Wembley.
While that war of words with Matchroom will likely continue for some time, Saunders and Eubank Jr have the opportunity to silence each other on Saturday night with Tyson Fury and Dereck Chisora expected to lead the bill.
