Promoter Eddie Hearn has taken the British star around the UK as his profile continues to grow in the pro ranks, and although Joshua displayed some ring rustuness early on, he didn’t disappoint the crowd at the Metro Radio Arena.
The 25-year-old has been out of the ring since November after developing a stress fracture in his back, but after Gavern felt the force of his punching power in the early rounds, it was clear that the fight wouldn’t last too long.
It took Joshua three rounds to seal the win, with his opponent unable to get up and continue after a third knockdown of the fight left him dazed but it was still a brave performance from him in the circumstances.
After making easy work of Gavern, Joshua will now head straight back into training camp next week as he will make a swift return to the ring on May 30 at the O2 in London where he faces Kevin Johnson as he continues to gain experience and move up the rankings.
