Gavin ultimately looked out of his depth from the start as Brook gradually worked his way into the fight and found his range before landing heavy shots on his opponent as his timing and ring-craft shut down his rival’s southpaw style.
The challenger struggled to keep up with the pace as Brook started to control proceedings, and as he began to find his target with greater regularity the end was near.
To his credit, Gavin hung in there until the sixth round before Brook had him against the ropes and started landing clean to put him in trouble which saw the Birmingham-born fighter slumped with his head down as the referee stepped in and called the bout off.
It was Brook’s second title defence and he will now hope to take on the top names in the division with Amir Khan and Floyd Mayweather mentioned in his post-fight interview.
However, the 29-year-old conceded that he was getting bored of the Khan talk and so it remains to be seen who he faces later this summer with promoter Eddie Hearn hopeful of bringing over a top American name in the UK.
