The two super-middleweights from Merseyside will put their respective unbeaten records on the line at the Echo Arena, with local pride as well as further progression up the rankings up for grabs.
Meanwhile, there is also the British super-middleweight title to consider, along with a growing rivalry between trainers Joe Gallagher and Oliver Harrison after they engaged in a war of words this week.
Smith (17-0, 12 KOs) has been tipped for a big future in the sport and will undoubtedly hope that he can get past Fielding (21-0, 12 KOs) and move on to bigger things.
However, his opponent will likely prove to be a tricky challenge despite the odds being firmly stacked against him. The rivalry involves the Smith family as a whole after Fielding chased a fight with Paul Smith last year, but he has been forced to settle for the younger of the siblings instead.
Both men have registered impressive wins in recent months, with Fielding stopping Brian Vera inside two rounds while Smith overcame Christopher Rebrasse in a tough contest.
As a result, they will both head into this encounter full of confidence and belief that they will be able to prevail on Saturday night in what will be a significant night for British boxing and the super-middleweight division.
