Golovkin sent his opponent to the floor three times before stopping him in the sixth, as he continues to rampage his way through the division as he eyes the big fights later in the year.
Following his 20th straight stoppage, the Kazakh star now has the highest knockout percentage in middleweight title history and he continues to build his fanbase in the USA and rise to the top of the sport.
With so many fighters seemingly avoiding Golovkin, Monroe Jr willingly stepped into the ring with the 33-year-old this weekend and paid tribute to his rival after the fight.
The American was able to catch Golovkin with some decent shots in a rally in the fourth and fifth rounds, but the champion took them well and continued to press through the fight before he eventually got what he came for.
Golovkin continues to show an impressive combination of control, accuracy and stamina in his prolonged attacks, and it was evident again in his win on Saturday night as he will now look to set up a clash with Miguel Cotto later in the year.
The pair had been touted to meet this month but it never became a reality, but the plan is to keep ‘GGG’ busy in the coming months regardless of whether or not the big names want to fight him and that should result in more exciting action and stoppages for the fans.
