Groves wants sensible offer for DeGale rematch: Groves hits back at Hearn.
With a world title shot secured on April 25, James DeGale has labelled rival George Groves “an idiot” after he rejected the opportunity to fight him.
DeGale will finally get his chance to win the IBF super-middleweight world title in April at the O2 Arena in London after it was announced on Tuesday that Carl Froch had vacated the belt.
While Froch recovers from an elbow injury, he will be hopeful of re-scheduling his bout with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in Las Vegas in the summer, but he admitted that he didn’t want to hold DeGale back and so he opted to step aside.
Promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that they are in talks with Andre Dirrell for the title bout, but it remains to be seen whether or not the American wants to return to the UK after losing to Carl Froch on points back in 2009.
Given that he will want a title shot he will likely travel, but when asked about George Groves, DeGale had little to say about his long-time rival who was involved in a Twitter exchange with Hearn on Monday.
DeGale merely labelled Groves an idiot and insisted that people are starting to see him for what he really is as the 29-year-old believes that it is his rival who is deluded.
Groves called out Hearn to offer him a sensible deal for the rematch with DeGale, as it is believed that he wants a significantly higher proportion of the split if they were to fight again.
While that will likely take place later in the year as the Saint continues to push for a WBC title fight against Anthony Dirrell, it hasn’t stopped the rivalry from being any less tense.
