Dirrell excited to face DeGale: American even suggested he would be happy to go to London.
After promoter Eddie Hearn lost a purse bid to Warriors Boxing, who are affiliated with Al Haymon, DeGale will now have to travel for his title shot against Dirrell.
However, the 29-year-old remains unfazed by the situation and is adamant that a “ring is a ring” and that he will make history in the coming months in becoming the first British Olympic gold medallist to become a world champion in the professional ranks.
DeGale conceded that he was disappointed from a personal point of view and for the British fans that they wouldn’t be able to attend the fight in London as had been hoped, but he was keen to promise them that he would be bringing the title back home with him.
The fight is expected to take place at the end of April, with Hearn revealing that he expects an announcement from Team Dirrell within 15 days on a date and venue, and ‘Chunky’ will be keen to get the bout on as soon as possible considering he started his training camp six weeks ago.
Given that he has boxed all around the world and been the underdog on numerous occasions, the experience isn’t one that should effect DeGale too much, but he knows that Dirrell is a tricky fighter and he will have to be on top form.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he delivered a message to his rival as the countdown is on to him becoming a world champion.
