IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook has insisted that once he gets his mandatory title defence out the way, he will target the big names in the division.
It was announced on Thursday that Brook would face Jo Jo Dan in Sheffield on March 28, and the 28-year-old has insisted that he will not take his next opponent lightly as he has earned a shot at his belt.
Brook defeated Shawn Porter in California last August to become a world champion, but just three weeks later he was questioning whether or not he would be able to step into the ring ever again.
The IBF champion was stabbed while on holiday in Tenerife, but after a lengthy rehabilitation process and hard work in the gym, Brook insists that he is now training as normal and can’t wait to defend his title in his home town.
While the talk is still centred around a grudge match with domestic rival Amir Khan, Brook says that he wants the big names later this year so he can go on and unify the belts in what is a highly talented weight class.
The likes of Juan Manuel Marquez, Andre Berto and Victor Ortiz were mentioned, but with Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao the other title holders in the division, Brook wants to in amongst the best before 2015 is over.
Meanwhile, Brook conceded that Khan is the bigger name out the two of them but he is the world champion and so he deserves credit and respect as the pair continued their war of words through social media.
