Unknown athlete becomes known after blistering time.
When you play a defensive back position, especially cornerback, you need speed, and lot’s of it.
Steve Williams certainly proved he had plenty of that after running a phenomenal time Tuesday in the 40 yard dash.
Beforehand, he was seen as nothing more than a late sixth round pick to compete for the fifth spot on the depth chat at the cornerback position.
This time alone however will have teams intrigued as to what he can do in the return game, as speed equals points on special team.
If teams go back to his game tape and like what they see from him in the coverage aspects of his game, they may decided to let him creep up their draft boards into the fourth round, depending on team needs.
With other players at the position disappointing, that was a big moment for Williams in his chances of landing on an NFL roster next year, and the time was so impressive, it even left the legend Deion Sanders in disbelief at the time.
