Fight night in Boston just got much bigger with Light Heavyweight showdown added.
Mixed martial arts fans won’t have to pay a cent to see the UFC on August 17, but the main card will have the feel of a pay-per-view,
UFC president Dana White promised a card for the ages when the promotion made its debut on Fox Sports 1 and he is living up to his promise with Chael Sonnen to face Mauricio Rua in the main event.
‘Shogun’ Rua was scheduled to fight Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 161 before a back injury forced ‘Little Nog’ out.
Sonnen offered to fight Rua on just 13 days’ notice, the second time within a year he has offered to fill a void left by injury, but the bout was unable to go ahead when Sonnen was unable to get the required paperwork to fight in Canada organised in time.
Instead they set up a mouth-watering fight in Boston on August 17, which joins other fights including Travis Browne vs Alistair Overeem, Yuri Alcantara vs Uriajh Faber, Michael McDonald vs Brad Pickett, Thiago Alves vs Matt Brown, Conor McGregor vs Andy Ogle and recent TUF 17 runner-up Uriah Hall vs Nick Ring.
