Chelsea’s terrible form appears to be rubbing off on their youth team.
The young Blues fell to a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City’s Under-21s at the Recreation Ground in Aldershot this evening, with this tidy finish from Thierry Ambrose on 82 minutes settling the match.

Bersant Celina was the provider for Ambrose with a lovely run and perfectly-timed pass. He had earlier opened the scoring for Patrick Vieira’s Citizens with a delightful first-half free-kick.

Aside from the scorers, goalkeeper Ian Lawlor starred for the Blues of Manchester with outstanding saves from Charly Musonda and Chelsea captain Charlie Colkett either side of half time.
The victory takes City’s next generation up to fifth in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League table, although they are still eight points adrift of leaders Sunderland, with a game in hand.
Chelsea, who lifted the FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League last season, are stranded in eighth and replicating the fall from grace that is currently being suffered by the senior team at Stamford Bridge.
Jose Mourinho’s side fell to 15th after Saturday’s 2-1 loss at West Ham United. Judging by recent results, the answer to their problems does not lie with their youngsters – at least not those still at the club.
