Chinese table tennis player Zhang Jike was stripped of all his $45,000 prize money after he destroyed advertising boards after winning the Liebherr World Cup title in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Jike defeated no.1 seed Ma Long and celebrated by kicking a board and snapping it in two.
He later apologised for his actions.
“I am very sorry for what I did,” Jike told the International Table Tennis Federation website.
“It was not acceptable behaviour and I am sorry. This was a perfect victory, I have been under a great deal of pressure, with people questioning my form.”
