Cavaliers hold off late charge to seal impressive win.
The Boston Celtics welcomed the Cleveland Cavaliers to the TD Garden on Friday night, but came up short in a 97-91 loss without the injured Paul Pierce.
‘The Truth’ was ruled out of action with an ankle injury prior to tip-off, and his absence alongside Kevin Garnett proved too much for the Celtics to overcome as they saw Tristan Thompson have a career-night.
The Cavaliers forward had 29 points and 17 rebounds which saw his team snap a season-high 10-game losing streak.
Jeff Green led the way for the Celtics with a team-high 23 points, but it wasn’t enough for a short-handed Boston team to avoid defeat.
They hold on to seventh spot in the East despite the loss with a comfortable buffer over the Milwaukee Bucks, and face the Washington Wizards on Saturday night.
