Fifita was issued with a grade three dangerous throw charge for the incident which occurred in the first half of Cronulla’s 22-6 win over the Knights on Friday
The 25-year-old will receive a four-week ban with an early guilty plea, or risk spending six weeks on the sidelines if he chooses to fight the charge, according to the NRL.
In other NRL judiciary news, Dragons forward Tyson Frizell is on the receiving end of a grade two high tackle charge following his hit on Canterbury Bulldogs player Tim Bowne during St George Illawarra’s 31-6 victory on Sunday.
It’s been a busy weekend for the NRL match review committee, with eight other players also charged.
Sydney Roosters prop Sam Moa and Gold Coast Titans forward Eddie Pettybourne will face one-week suspensions for high tackle charges, while Brisbane’s Jarrod Wallace also faces a one-week ban for dangerous contact on Kane Evans.
New Zealand Warriors duo Ryan Hoffman and Sam Lisone will avoid suspension with early guilty pleas, as will Manly’s Jamie Buhrer.
Nathan Peats and Manu Ma’u (Parramatta Eels) will also avoid a ban with an early guilty pleafor their challenge on Titans forward Dave Taylor.
