Nowitzki reaches 25,000 career points, and shaves his beard.
It was an historic night for Dirk Nowitzki on Sunday, as he reached the 25,000 career points mark in the Dallas Mavericks’ 107-89 win over the New Orleans Hornets.
Nowitzki became only the 17th player in NBA history to surpass the landmark, and did so with a long-jumper in the second quarter as he went on to finish with 19 points.
Unfortunately for Dallas though, their play-off hopes are long gone, as they miss out on the post season for the first time in 13 years.
However, there was some good news for the Mavericks, who finally reached the .500 mark as they took their season record to 40-40. That meant that Nowitzki could finally shave having vowed to leave his beard untouched until Dallas reached the mark.
He will now hope to help the ball club avoid their first losing season since 1999-00 as they wrap up the regular season with games against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday before a re-match with the New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday.
Ryan Anderson led the way for the Hornets with a team-high 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Robin Lopez added 10 points and 13 boards.
However, it wasn’t enough to prevent the loss, and they will hope to finish the season on a high with the re-match against the Mavericks their final game of the season.
