Kobe’s triple-double seals vital win for Lakers.
The Los Angeles Lakers secured an important 101-81 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday, in what is becoming a real battle for the play-offs in the Western Conference.
Kobe Bryant sealed the 19th triple double of his career as he went for 23 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists, as the win keeps the Lakers level with the Jazz in eighth place as the Mavericks fall two and a half games back.
It was a celebratory night at the Staples Center, with the franchise honouring Shaquille O’Neal by retiring his no.34 jersey at half-time. Along with the other stars in attendance, the NBA legend will have been pleased with what he saw on the court.
Dwight Howard added 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Pau Gasol had 14 points and 10 boards. Earl Clark also played an important role, contributing 17 points and 12 rebounds off the bench as the Lakers used their big men to out-rebound Dallas 67-43.
The Lakers host the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, before facing rivals the Clippers on Sunday in what looks to be a pivotal week for them. It isn’t much easier for the Mavericks who go to Denver on Thursday to take on the Nuggets.
