Mavericks edge closer to .500 mark with win over Portland.
The Dallas Mavericks are now just a win away from allowing some of their stars to shave, with a 96-91 win over the Portland Trail Blazers moving them to within a win of the .500 mark for the season.
Chris Kaman scored a season-high 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Mavericks who now sit at 38-39 for the season, and led for the entire game before holding off a late rally from the Trail Blazers.
Shawn Marion had 20 points, but it was a quiet night for Dirk Nowitzki who played just over 20 minutes, adding just six points.
Rookie Will Barton chipped in with 22 points off the bench for Portland, with LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard also making it into double figures.
The Mavericks aren’t entirely out of the play-off picture just yet, but will need a lot to go their way if they are to feature in the post season. They face the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday, while Portland take on the Los Angeles Lakers on the same night.
