West Bromwich Albion have managed to salvaged at least some pride against Arsenal with an early second half goal to reduce the deficit to 4-1.

Video: Theo Walcott goals v West Brom: Arsenal speedster breaks Gunners’ scoring drought to demonstrate why he must remain at Emirates Stadium this summer
Tony Pulis’ side were earlier blown away by a rampant Gunners attack, with Theo Walcott hitting a first-half hat-trick with a trio of slick goals to put his name in contention for the FA Cup final next week, while Jack Wilshere managed a peach of his own in what could be one of the goals of the season.
However, despite these entertaining and enjoyable strikes, it’ll be the one goal Arsenal concede that will likely have Arsene Wenger’s full attention in the post-match debrief.
From a West Brom corner, goalkeeper David Ospina charged from his line, presumably in an attempt to command his area, take charge and deal with the danger himself. But the actual result was something much more pathetic and concerning.
Despite jumping for the ball, and with his arms raised, Ospina still couldn’t get high enough to swat the ball clear before it landed on Gareth McCauley’s head and allowed him to nod the ball into the empty goal.
The concern with Ospina when he joined was his relative lack of height for a keeper. 6ft may seem big to us mere mortals, but in the goalkeeping world this is an anomaly.
The continued links with 6ft 5in Petr Cech – the latest coming in the Daily Mail – will surely have a few Arsenal fans hoping they do actually capture the Chelsea stopper.
A man of the Czech international’s experience and stature would surely help rectify the Gunners’ concerns in between the sticks, with Ospina hardly inspiring confidence and Wojciech Szczesny still untrusted, in the league at least, after his smoking faux pas on New Years Day.
