DeGale to fight Gonzales on Froch-Groves 2 undercard at Wembley.
Promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed his excitement at finally signing James DeGale to Matchroom Boxing and how he has big hopes for him moving forward starting with his first outing against Brandon Gonzales on May 31 at Wembley Stadium.
Hearn conceded that he has tried to sign the Olympic gold-medal winner twice before but he has eluded him on both occasions, but having now finally landed him he is expecting a great deal from the 28-year-old.
DeGale will fight Gonzales in an IBF final eliminator with a view of facing the winner of Carl Froch against George Groves later this year, but Hearn insists that he must remain focused on his next fight and show that he can deliver on the big stage.
Having switched promoter for the third time in his 19-fight career, DeGale revealed that he has felt depressed over the past year or so but is no longer looking at the past and wants to prove he belongs in the limelight and will respond to the level of competition and hype.
Nevertheless, Hearn wants him to get through his fight on May 31 which will ultimately pave the way for a possible rematch against long-time rival Groves, or against Froch in another huge domestic showdown.
