England overcame Italy in the rugby union Six Nations Championship at Twickenham Stadium.
England fought off a spirited effort from Italy to remain on course for the 2013 Grand Slam title – but could still lose the title to Wales depending on the score in their final fixture.
The home team won the game through the boot of Toby Flood, but their performance was patchy at best throughout.
Sloppy play resulted in the English conceding turnovers at line-outs, scrums and in open play, and it was the Italians who scored the only try of the game – Luke McLean diving over the line after Danny Care’s error.
Italy had opportunities to cut England’s lead to just one point but they missed two kicks from wide positions, and England were able to claim victory by seven points in the end.
