England opener Compton made 117 against New Zealand in the last Test to help his side secure a draw.
After coming in for some criticism about his form, England opener Nick Compton went into the first Test against New Zealand needing to prove himself.
A duck in the first innings did little to deter his critics but an impressive 117 from the 29-year-old aided England’s draw. His effort was accompanied by a century from captain Alastair Cook and an unexpected 56 from night watchman Steven Finn.
Compton’s good performance came at just the right time for the batsman and it appears his place for the Ashes squad is now more-or-less secured.
