England host Montenegro on Friday evening in their penultimate World Cup qualifying match, knowing anything but a win could put them in a precarious position in Group H.
Roy Hodgson’s side currently lead the group by one point ahead of Ukraine, who could leapfrog England if they beat Poland and the Three Lions fail to defeat the stubborn Montenegro side.
Last time out against Ukraine, Hodgson’s start strike duo of Daniel Sturridge were out injured, but both should return for Friday’s tie at Wembley. Danny Welbeck, who has been in blistering form for England recently, is expected to dovetail with the pair in a dynamic front three, with captain Steven Gerrard, Jack Wilshere and possibly Frank Lampard starting in the middle of the park.
Injured left-back Ashley Cole will be replaced by Leighton Baines, and Kyle Walker will continue to deputise for Glen Johnson, who won’t be fit for a fee weeks at least.
