Everton were grateful to their Chelsea loan star Romelu Lukaku for his first half of clinical finishing against Newcastle United at Goodison Park.
Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku starred as Everton defeated Newcastle United 3-1 at Goodison Park in the Barclays Premier League.
The Toffees took an early lead when the Belgium international fired home from close range from Kevin Mirallas’ low cross after just 5 minutes, having already had a goal ruled out for offside.
On 25 minutes, Lukaku weighted a great through ball to play in Ross Barkley, and the teenager wrong footed Tim Krul in the Magpies goal in intelligent fashion to double his team’s lead.
Before the break, it was three – and Lukaku again.
Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard launched a long ball forward, and the route one tactics threw the Newcastle defence into disarray, with Lukaku able to lash into an empty net.
There seemed no way back for Newcastle, but after half time, it was a different story.
Substitute Yohan Cabaye smashed a super shot in from range, before Loic Remy tapped home a second late on.
The Magpies paid for their dreadful opening period though, and the points remained with Everton at Goodison Park.
