The Italian outfit were reduced to 10 men after just six minutes when Mauricio was sent off, but goals from Alessandro Matri, Anderson and Antonio Candreva ensured that they remain top of their group.
Stefano Pioli’s side have recovered well from some disappointing results last month, and while they continue to impress in Europe, they also sit in sixth place in the Serie A table after eight games.
Although the Italian tactician still doesn’t necessarily start Anderson every game, the Brazilian is responding well to the test and continues to influence games when involved and that is shown in his respectable goal return too.
Earlier this week, it was reported by the Metro that Barcelona had joined United in the race to sign the 22-year-old, and they will have been impressed with what they saw on Thursday night.
Whether or not either club make a move for him in the January transfer window remains to be seen, but particularly with Barcelona losing Pedro to Chelsea in the summer, the Catalan giants will be keen to add another wide player to the squad.
Meanwhile, his presence at Old Trafford may well give boss Louis van Gaal a boost as the Dutchman continues to rotate his squad with Anthony Martial playing in a wide role in recent outings.
